Where to Eat in Bangkok

When planning for a trip to Bangkok, you probably heard how good the food is in Samboon Seafood, Bangkok's most famous seafood restaurant. (they opened a branch in Central Embassy) or advised to chill at Banyan Tree.

In a recent trip to Bangkok, my palate was delighted by a random food trip to less famous places but equally good restaurants.

After buying cheap yonex racket at Mr.C Sports, we found this quaint cafe next to Ari Station called Kun Kao Kub Pla.

The spicy smoked salmon salad was really spicy but it was so good, it eventually put me into tears. The fried mushrooms were equally superb. They also serve ice cream which looked absolutely delish which I had to pass because I'm in a so called diet.

Central World is one of my fave places to shop.  It was painful to see it burnt the last time I was there after the red shirt protest.  Now, it's all newly renovated, but still familiar.  Naturalizer, Lacoste are still at the same spot. Sephora and Fitflop have opened in Bangkok.  I didnt see these two years ago.  They have opened a new hip outdoor dining called the Groove.  We randomly chose a Japanese Restaurant called wabi sabi. This Hokkaido Salmon Don is a bowful of japanese rice with salmon sashimi and caviar.  My first time to have this kind of preparation.

Platinum Mall.  Platinum is a fashion mall (tiangge) for wholesalers.  Most do not allow one to fit. Buy more than 2 pieces and you get wholesale price.  Compared to many years ago, visual merchandising has greatly improved.  At the top floor, there is a food court, of course we had more thai cuisine: tom yum soup, pad thai, oyster cake. Each viand costs about 50-80 baht, that's cheap!

We stayed in a condominium we found over at Air Bnb for 140$ for 3 nights, not bad right?  Since my travel buddy is a coffee addict and cannot live a day without a cup of good coffee, our host recommended the Rocket cafe at Central Embassy.  Nice ambience!

Since we got an unlimited pass on the BTS for 130 baht for the day, after coffee, we moved to Asok Station to Terminal 21.  I've been intrigued by this themed mall.  I am pleasantly surprised how they designed the mall, taking "malling" to the next level.  Each floor is themed to a famous city like Tokyo, London, San Francisco etc...

Our last supper was just next to Terminal 21 and Westin Hotel, no less  at their so called best steak in town, at El Gaucho Argentinian Steakhouse, for 3500 baht we got 750 grams prime ribs to share.

Siam Paragon is one of my favorite malls to shop. Their department store is one of a kind, carrying all sorts of reputable brands. There's so much choices from their gourmet supermarket.  Got these green juice and sliced fresh fruit from the grocery for breakfast.

Just outside the supermarket is a row of streetfood. Maybe twice or thrice the price compared to the streets but the cleanliness and quality makes your money's worth.

Aside from the street food, there's a food court in the same area.  There are also several restaurants to choose from.  For our last meal, we sat at Taling Pling, upon the recommendation of a friend.  Taling Pling  serves savoury Thai food.  The pictures on the menu wasn't appetizing but when the food came out, it did not disappoint.  The tom yum soup (gone before I could take a picture), pork satay, kale, seabass (440baht) were superb. For 5 viands, we paid around 1200 baht.  Definitely worth a try.  And yes that's right, five viands for two girls who eat (a lot). 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
